Representatives from the Iowa Department of Justice, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office (Ohio), and City of Portland (Oregon) Police Bureau presented at this webinar; all three agencies are SAKI grantees and have started or completed their own inventory of unsubmitted sexual assault kits (SAKs). Each agency presented about their inventory process, lessons learned, and challenges to successfully completing their SAK inventory. A panel discussion and Q&A session followed the presentations.
Funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative aims to create a coordinated community response that ensures just resolution to sexual assault cases. Through this program, funding is provided to support multidisciplinary community response teams engaged in the comprehensive reform of jurisdictions approaches to sexual assault cases resulting from evidence found in previously unsubmitted sexual assault kits.
