Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) are often made of a wide variety of professionals. Individuals participating as part of a collective effort to review cases, understand the nature of sexual assault in the community, and identify opportunities for improving policy and practice are frequently sharing critical pieces of information. In some instances, this information may be confidential. This brief outlines the considerations that practitioners should have in mind when collaborating with other MDT members. Readers will learn about types of sensitive information, methodologies for ensuring a collective understanding amongst the group, and implications of a data breach.
Funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative aims to create a coordinated community response that ensures just resolution to sexual assault cases. Through this program, funding is provided to support multidisciplinary community response teams engaged in the comprehensive reform of jurisdictions approaches to sexual assault cases resulting from evidence found in previously unsubmitted sexual assault kits.
